The West Coast Eagles' 2025 AFLW season concluded with a 41-point loss to Carlton at IKON Park on Saturday. In wild, rainy Melbourne conditions, Carlton showcased their dominance on the scoreboard, while the Eagles struggled to gain control in the 9.6 (60) to 2.7 (19) defeat.
In their club’s first-ever finals campaign, several young Eagles impressed. Ella Roberts delivered a standout performance with 30 disposals, 12 tackles, and the team’s first finals goal. First-year players Charlotte Riggs and Kayla Dalgleish adapted well to the wet conditions, while defenders Charlie Thomas and Jess Rentsch anchored the backline.
The match also marked the final appearance of inaugural AFLW player Dana Hooker, who retired after round 12, concluding an outstanding ten-year career in women’s football.
Carlton opened strongly, keeping West Coast scoreless in the first quarter before Roberts managed to get the Eagles on the board in the second. The Blues’ young talents surged in the third term, adding three goals. Sophie McKay was instrumental, scoring twice and collecting eight disposals in the quarter.
Carlton’s Irish pair, Erone Fitzpatrick and Dayna Finn, thrived in the cold and wet conditions, driving the team forward with their pace and ball movement.
