The new facilities Perth hospital hopes will be game changer

The New Facilities at Perth Hospital Aim to Transform Surgery Access

Western Australia’s elective surgery waitlist approaches 30,000 people, and the latest medical additions hope to reduce this burden on the health system.

Expansion of Surgical Capacity at Joondalup Health Campus

Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) has introduced two new operating theatres, increasing the hospital’s ability to perform up to 4,000 additional surgeries annually in both private and public sectors.

These theatres were constructed within the existing operating complex at JHC and are funded by Ramsay Health Care as part of a $190 million development of Ramsay Joondalup Private Hospital.

Advanced Surgical Technology and Specialties

The new theatres are equipped with the latest surgical technology to support a range of specialties, including orthopaedics, urology, and vascular surgery.

“The two new theatres will be used to support increased private and public surgical activity across multiple specialties, including orthopaedics, urology and vascular surgery,” said Renaud Mazy, JHC chief executive officer.

Impact on Elective Surgery Waitlists

As of August, the elective surgery waitlist in WA held 29,026 patients, a modest reduction from 30,945 the previous year. Among these, 4,444 patients had waited longer than the maximum recommended timeframe for their surgery.

The new theatres aim to moderately relieve this backlog, improving timely access to critical surgical care.
