New Yorkers will vote to elect a new mayor, public advocate, and city comptroller. In Staten Island, voters will also decide on borough president and representatives for the 49th, 50th, and 51st Council Districts.
In addition, there will be special elections for the New York Supreme Court 13th Judicial District and New York City Civil Court Richmond County 1st Municipal Court District.

Zohran Mamdani, the current Democratic Assembly member for Queens’ 36th District, aims to make bus rides free for New Yorkers, similar to the Staten Island Ferry fare policy. Mamdani wrote on X, “When someone tells you buses could never be free, ask them how much they pay to take the Staten Island Ferry.”
He advocates for free bus services for commuters across all five boroughs, emphasizing the importance for those reliant on MTA buses.
Mamdani supported the free bus pilot program that lasted until August 31, 2024, notably covering the S46/96 route.
