Nintendo’s latest Direct presentation offered fans a first glimpse at The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the animated follow-up to the 2023 hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The new film returns audiences to the cosmic worlds of Super Mario Galaxy, promising a faithful yet refreshed adaptation of the iconic platform adventure.
During the livestream, Nintendo unveiled a teaser trailer confirming two major casting choices: Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. Both characters played key roles in the original 2007 Wii title, where Mario journeys across galaxies to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser’s interstellar clutches.
The upcoming film takes creative liberties with the source material. This time, Bowser Jr. emerges as the main villain, determined to liberate his father, Bowser, who remains trapped after being shrunken to the size of a Tic Tac due to the effects of a mini Blue Mushroom in the previous movie. The trailer hints at a blend of storytelling inspired by multiple Super Mario titles, expanding the cinematic universe of Nintendo’s most famous hero.
