The largest race event in Ireland is set to return in 2026. Following the 2025 Irish Life Dublin Marathon held just weeks ago, attention is already turning to next year’s edition.
In 2025, over 22,000 runners took part in the challenging course through Dublin’s streets, with similar numbers expected for 2026.
The 2026 race introduces a new ballot system for entries, replacing some of the previous priority options.
Per the official Dublin Marathon website: "Organisers aim to increase female participation beyond what was achieved through the previous initiative."
The updated entry approach reflects a commitment to fairness and inclusivity while encouraging a diverse field of competitors.
The 2026 Dublin Marathon will take place on October 26 with a new ballot entry system to streamline participation and boost female runner numbers.
Author’s note: The changes in entry rules mark a significant shift toward greater accessibility and balanced representation in Ireland’s premier marathon event.
