At The Christie, our colleagues wear NHS national healthcare uniforms designed to help easily identify different roles across the Trust. These uniforms promote consistency and a shared identity across the NHS.
The uniform colours and designs are agreed upon by NHS England, NHS Supply Chain, and professional healthcare bodies. This coordinated approach replaces the previous system where trusts used varied styles and colours, creating a more coherent national system.
The uniforms are made from long-lasting and sustainable materials, including a blend of 100% recycled polyester and cotton sourced through the Better Cotton Initiative. This sustainable design reduces waste and saves the NHS up to 30% on uniform ordering costs.
The colour schemes serve as primary identifiers for different professional groups:
Each colourway was carefully selected to be nationally recognisable and meaningful within the healthcare setting.
The new NHS uniforms began launching in Autumn 2023 and are expected to be available widely from early 2024, with adoption decisions made at the trust level. The uniforms have been tested for fit and comfort to suit a diverse workforce.
“Together we are building a shared identity we can all be proud of.” — Kevin Chidlow, Director, NHS Supply Chain
The Christie’s NHS uniforms reflect a national effort to unify healthcare staff appearance through colour-coded, durable, and sustainable attire, supporting recognition, professionalism, and environmental responsibility.
