By winning the gold medal in Paris, Japan became the first Asian nation to ever claim the top spot in wheelchair rugby. The triumph also elevated them to first place in the world rankings, marking a defining moment for the country’s para-athletic community.
In October 2023, Japan secured victory at the World Wheelchair Rugby Asia-Oceania Championship after defeating Australia in the final, cementing their qualification for the Paralympics. During the Paris 2024 Games, they once again overcame Australia in the semifinal and went on to defeat Team USA in a thrilling final match.
