Vasiliy Lomachenko has confirmed his retirement from boxing, ending speculation about a possible comeback. The talented Ukrainian fighter retired in June 2025, just over a year after defeating George Kambosos Jr to become a two-time world lightweight champion.
Lomachenko's 21-fight professional career featured title victories in multiple weight classes, including featherweight and super-featherweight. His outstanding performance against Kambosos in Australia suggested he had more to offer in the ring.
In an Instagram post, Lomachenko explained his reasons for retiring:
“I’m thankful that, as my career comes to an end, I’ve gained clarity about the direction a person must take in order to achieve victory.
My father not only taught me the art of boxing but how to be a role model for my own children – the same way he has always been for me.
I’ve made many mistakes in life, and in the gym, but he has always been by my side.”
The two-time Olympic gold medallist's name resurfaced recently amid rumors of a possible fight against Manny Pacquiao. Lomachenko, who was honoured at a recent WBO convention in Colombia, shared insight on his decision:
“It was not difficult because I lost my motivation.”
He also addressed speculation about returning to the ring for a potential bout with Pacquiao but did not confirm any upcoming plans.
