Fiorentina have dismissed head coach Stefano Pioli following one of their worst Serie A starts in history. The decision was made on Monday after the team failed to secure a single victory in their first 10 league matches this season.
Fiorentina sits at the bottom of the Serie A table with just four points (four draws, six losses). This poor run marks the third time in club history they have lost six out of the first 10 Serie A games, previously occurring in the 1939/40 and 2001/02 seasons.
The club has also lost four of their first five home league games, a rare occurrence only seen once before in the 1977/78 season.
Pioli, who signed a three-year contract in the summer marking his second tenure at Fiorentina, was relieved of his duties. This is notably the first occasion Pioli has not won a league match while managing in Serie A, despite previous roles at Bologna, Chievo, Inter, Lazio, Milan, and Parma.
Following Pioli's departure, Under-20s coach Daniele Galloppa has been appointed interim head coach.
Galloppa will lead Fiorentina in their upcoming UEFA Conference League match against Mainz 05 on Thursday, with Fiorentina currently leading their group after two games.
"The head coach was relieved of first-team duties on Monday, with Under-20s coach Daniele Galloppa appointed in the interim role."
"Fiorentina are yet to win in Serie A this season after 10 games, leaving them bottom of the Italian top-flight on four points."
