AlphaTheta suspends CDJ-3000 firmware update distribution following playlist issues

AlphaTheta Suspends CDJ-3000 Firmware Update Due to Playlist Issues

Pioneer DJ's parent company, AlphaTheta, has rolled back its latest firmware update for the CDJ-3000 after DJs reported serious problems with missing playlists and data on their USB drives.

Details of the Firmware Rollback

Following the update released on October 21, which introduced OneLibrary—a feature aiming to unify software and hardware across multiple brands—AlphaTheta has suspended version 3.30 of the CDJ-3000 firmware. The company now recommends users reinstall version 3.20.

Reported Problems

DJs, including Jaguar, VTSS, and Samurai Breaks, found their playlists, tracks, and rekordbox data either partially or completely missing after plugging USBs into devices with the newest firmware, according to Resident Advisor. This issue is believed to be linked to the addition of OneLibrary, which is intended to ensure compatibility between rekordbox, djay Pro, and Traktor software, alongside rekordbox Device Library Plus.

OneLibrary is "basically the same" as rekordbox's Device Library Plus and will "gradually" replace the older product, according to AlphaTheta's initial update announcement.

Community Response

Over the weekend, DJ Jaguar highlighted the problem on Instagram, describing her experience at a London Halloween event as an "absolute mare," warning other DJs about the impact of the new CDJ-3000 firmware on their USBs.

"Apparently the CDJ-3000's firmware has been updated, which can impact your USBs," Jaguar explained in a video.

Summary

AlphaTheta has temporarily halted the latest CDJ-3000 firmware update after multiple DJs encountered critical playlist and data losses, recommending users revert to the previous firmware version while they address the issue.

Author's summary: AlphaTheta paused the CDJ-3000 firmware update due to widespread playlist loss issues, advising users to reinstall the older version while working on a fix.
