Saturday Night’s Main Event Recap: Championships Are for Punks

CM Punk's long and unusual journey back to the top of WWE is finally complete. His pursuit of a WWE championship has ended, though the final outcome and path remain uncertain. This uncertainty is the most compelling aspect of the event, which overall felt average.

The main event was solid but lacked the extra spark to elevate it fully. When it descended into a series of finishers, it reminded me of watching "Return of the King" in theaters and repeatedly being fooled by multiple endings. This kind of storytelling is common in professional wrestling today. While familiar and sometimes enjoyable, I can’t fully support it.

Focusing on the positives, the highlight here is potential. Though I predicted that a Jey Uso win would be more intriguing, Punk's victory introduces unpredictability to Monday Night Raw. While The Vision and LA Knight will undoubtedly voice their opinions, Punk on top presents a fresh dynamic.

We know Jey Uso's story and have seen Seth Rollins many times. CM Punk, however, is a somewhat unknown factor, adding excitement to WWE's landscape.

“Once it devolved into a bunch of finishers, I remembered watching Return of the King in theaters and constantly getting faked out by multiple endings.”
“Punk on top is different. We’ve seen Jey and know what that’s like. We’ve seen Seth Rollins multiple times. Punk, strangely enough, is an unknown commodity.”

Author's summary: CM Punk’s championship win brings fresh unpredictability to WWE, offering new excitement amid familiar faces and typical storytelling.
