On World Cities Day 2025, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay announced the inclusion of 58 new cities in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). These cities were recognized for their dedication to fostering creativity and sustainable urban development.
With these additions, the Network now consists of 408 cities from more than 100 countries, expanding global cooperation through creative and cultural exchange.
For the first time, the UCCN embraces Creative Cities of Architecture, introducing this discipline alongside the existing seven fields: Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts, and Music.
"By welcoming 58 new cities, we are strengthening a Network where creativity supports local initiatives, attracts investments, and promotes social cohesion."
Since its creation in 2004, the UNESCO Creative Cities initiative has fostered human-centered urban development, encouraging innovation and community engagement through arts and culture.
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network expanded in 2025 with 58 new members, highlighting the transformative power of creativity in urban progress worldwide.
