Joint Base Andrews, the military base in Maryland home to Air Force One, was evacuated after a suspicious package containing white powder was opened.
Several individuals reportedly fell ill and were taken to the Malcolm Grove Medical Center on base, according to CNN sources. However, Joint Base Andrews has not officially confirmed this information.
The HAZMAT team performed an initial field test on the white powder, which showed no hazardous substances.
“Joint Base Andrews first responders were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats, and have turned the scene over to Office of Special Investigations,” a base spokesperson stated.
“An investigation is currently ongoing.”
The military base continues the investigation, and updates are expected as the situation develops.
