Livinia Nixon takes bright long-range outlook with her on new chapter

Livinia Nixon Begins a New Chapter with a Bright Outlook

Livinia Nixon, the beloved weather presenter who started her on-air career with Hey Hey, It’s Saturday, will continue her work on travel shows Postcards and Getaway. After 20 years in the role, Nixon will sign off from her nightly weather segments this month.

“I’ve been on air for more of my life than I’ve not,” she said with a laugh, following the announcement on Friday afternoon. “I’m looking forward to a breather.”

At 50 years old, Nixon will stay with Nine Network, the company that owns the shows, maintaining her appearances on travel programs. She chose to end her weeknight weather briefings to spend more time with her family, especially as her youngest son, Ted, is about to start high school alongside his older brother Henry.

“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me,” Nixon explained. “When I discussed it with our boys, they said ‘we’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum’.”

Memorable Moments on Air

One standout moment in Nixon’s career was a live weather segment at Healesville Sanctuary, where she had a green tree python draped around her neck. The snake wrapped tightly, even attempting to slip inside her jacket.

“I’d never read the weather as quickly in my life,” she recalled.

Looking Forward

Though stepping back from nightly weather shows, Nixon remains connected to her audience through travel programming, embracing the next phase of her career with enthusiasm and balance.

Author’s summary: Livinia Nixon closes her 20-year weather presenting chapter to cherish family time but stays active with travel shows, embracing a refreshed career path.
