Channel Nine is bracing for change as beloved weather presenter Livinia Nixon has announced her departure from 9News Melbourne after twenty years of service. Nixon, known for her warmth and professionalism, revealed she is stepping back to dedicate more time to her family.
“After 20 years presenting weather on 9News, I’ve decided to step back from this role. My sons will both be in high school and I want to be there to support them. It’s been a privilege to be welcomed into viewers’ homes for so long, but this is the right time for my family,”
In her statement, Nixon mentioned her two sons, Henry and Ted, emphasizing how important family time has become. She reflected on her journey with gratitude.
“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me. When I discussed it with our boys, they said ‘we’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.’”
Nixon’s career with Nine began in 1997, when she charmed audiences alongside television veteran Daryl Somers on Hey Hey It’s Saturday. Since then, she has become one of the network’s most recognizable figures.
While stepping away from daily broadcasts, Livinia will remain part of the Nine family, continuing her work on its popular travel programs Getaway and Postcards.
After two decades as 9News Melbourne’s trusted weather presenter, Livinia Nixon leaves to focus on family but will stay with Nine for travel hosting duties.
