SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Gérald Caussé, a native of France and former Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was called and ordained as the newest member of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Thursday. The ordination was performed by President Dallin H. Oaks, with the participation of other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum.
The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is the second-highest governing body in the Church, with members serving as special witnesses of Christ and overseeing administrative functions worldwide.
“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ,” Elder Caussé said. “And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ.”
Born in Bordeaux in 1963, Elder Caussé moved to Paris at age 19. He and his wife, Valérie Babin Caussé, are second-generation members of the Church. They married in 1986 at the Bern Switzerland Temple and have five children.
Since 2012, Elder Caussé has served in the Presiding Bishopric. He was a General Authority Seventy from 2008 to 2012. Throughout his ministry, he has emphasized caring for others and the significance of the Church’s youth.
