Elder Gérald Caussé Called as Newest Apostle

Elder Gérald Caussé, a native of Bordeaux, France, has been called as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He becomes the first Apostle from France and the fourth currently serving outside the United States.

Having served the past decade as the Church’s Presiding Bishop, Elder Caussé’s calling was announced by President Dallin H. Oaks on Thursday, November 6. His ordination took place the same day under the direction of President Oaks and members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

He succeeds the late President Russell M. Nelson in the quorum. Elder Caussé, age 62, continues a lifetime of Church service that spans multiple continents.

Together with his wife, Sister Valérie Caussé, they have raised three children and lived in several countries, including France, Germany, and the United States.

“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ. He’s always been at the center of my life. And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That’s the greatest responsibility we can have in life.” — Elder Gérald Caussé

Elder Caussé has actively engaged with youth and young adults, including speaking at the Utah YSA Conference in Salt Lake City. His teachings often emphasize faith, service, and discipleship centered on Jesus Christ.
