Presiding Bishop Gérald Caussé was announced on Thursday as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Now Elder Caussé, aged 62, has been the church's presiding bishop for 11 years. He was called to the apostleship and ordained the same day by President Dallin H. Oaks along with members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
"I've always had a testimony of Jesus Christ," Elder Caussé said. "He's always been in the center of my life. And I know he's our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That's the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives."
He married Valérie Babin on August 5, 1986, in the Bern Switzerland Temple. Over the years, his church responsibilities have taken him and his family to live in Germany and the United States.
Summary: Gérald Caussé, a native of France and longtime presiding bishop, is newly appointed as an apostle, emphasizing his lifelong dedication to Jesus Christ and varied international church service.
