Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown, 37, has been extradited to Miami to face an attempted murder charge linked to a May shooting outside a celebrity boxing event, police confirmed Thursday.
According to Miami Police, Brown was brought to the United States from Dubai, with his transfer passing through Newark, New Jersey, earlier in the day. Records indicate he was booked at the Essex County Jail before being sent to Florida.
Authorities revealed that while Brown was evading capture, he shared videos from Dubai that appeared to mock law enforcement.
“He was kind of taunting us, saying, 'I'm safe here,' and that’s how we took it. But now we’re getting the last laugh,” said Miami Police spokesperson Officer Michael Vega. “No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice.”
A warrant for Brown’s arrest was issued in June, charging him with attempted murder with a firearm related to the May 16 incident near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street. An off-duty officer working security at the event reported hearing gunfire and later witnessing Brown fighting with another man in the parking lot, according to the warrant.
