Reports indicate that David Kampf, forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs, has stepped away from the Toronto Marlies as he reconsiders his position within the organization.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared on Saturday Headlines and the 32 Thoughts podcast that Kampf is frustrated about not being in the NHL lineup. Friedman revealed that Kampf has taken time off from the team and that discussions might lead to contract termination.
“I don’t know exactly what was said…but Kampf did leave players with the Marlies [Leafs’ AHL affiliate] with the impression that he was going to terminate his contract.”
Friedman elaborated on Saturday Headlines:
“The Toronto Marlies are playing tonight in Chicago in the American Hockey League, and he’s not with them. I was told there’s a possibility he could play tomorrow, but I think that’s unlikely.”
He added that Kampf is currently facing a difficult situation due to roster limitations and salary cap constraints, which has contributed to his frustration and decision to step back for a few days.
The outcome of this situation remains uncertain, but Kampf's temporary absence highlights ongoing challenges between the player and the team's management.
David Kampf's decision to step away from the Marlies reflects his frustration with limited NHL opportunities and may lead to contract termination amid roster and cap challenges.
