Netflix has unveiled the opening five minutes of the long-awaited final season of Stranger Things, offering a haunting look back to 1983 and an intense encounter between Will Byers and Vecna in the Upside Down.
A Return to Hawkins and the Upside Down
The debut episode, titled “The Crawl,” begins deep in the shadowy forest of the Upside Down following Will Byers’ disappearance. A digitally de-aged Noah Schnapp appears as 12-year-old Will, terrified and clinging to hope within the eerie Upside Down version of Castle Byers.
Will quietly murmurs the lyrics of The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” before hearing guttural noises closing in on him.
Moments later, a Demogorgon smashes through the fort. Will fires a rifle, manages to escape briefly, and climbs a tree before the monster drags him out of sight. The screen fades to black, transitioning to the dark halls of the Upside Down’s Hawkins Library.
Vecna’s Menacing Entrance
In the library, the Demogorgon delivers Will to Vecna, portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower. Emerging from the shadows, Vecna addresses his captive with ominous finality.
“At long last, we can begin.”
Vines then lift Will against the wall as a tentacle reaches toward him, releasing an unidentified substance, signaling the beginning of the season’s terrifying endgame.
