ESPN Insider Predicts Higher AAV for Kyle Schwarber than Kyle Tucker

Kyle Schwarber is reportedly in line for a major offseason payday, and the Philadelphia Phillies face a significant decision regarding his future. With their competitive window beginning to narrow, the team aims to stay competitive by retaining key contributors like Schwarber, now a free agent designated hitter.

According to ESPN reporter Jeff Passan, keeping Schwarber might prove difficult, as his projected annual average value could surpass that of top free agent Kyle Tucker this offseason.

“Because he’ll be 33 on Opening Day, Schwarber is looking at a maximum five-year deal,” Passan wrote. “Even at a high average annual value (AAV), the lack of years keeps mid-market teams in the mix.”

Passan further noted that Schwarber’s age and the potential for numerous teams to join his free-agent market—due to a relatively modest total contract value—could drive short-term offers upward.

“Ultimately, though, the bidding is likely to come down to bigger-market teams, and he could wind up with a bigger per-year number than (Kyle) Tucker on account of that,” Passan added.

Author’s Summary

ESPN projects Kyle Schwarber could secure a shorter but richer deal than Kyle Tucker, with high annual value offers likely from large-market contenders.
