UTSA Roadrunners Football Milestones
In 2025, the UTSA Roadrunners celebrate their 15th football season. As one of the newer programs in the FBS, UTSA has rapidly established itself in college football.
Program History and Conference Evolution
- The program began with a practice year in 2010 and competed as an FCS Independent in 2011.
- In 2012, UTSA joined the Western Athletic Conference.
- By 2013, UTSA moved to Conference USA and became a full FBS member starting in 2014.
Record-Setting Inaugural Season
During its first season in 2011, the Roadrunners set NCAA modern startup records by drawing 56,743 fans for the inaugural game against Northeastern State and averaging 35,521 fans over six home games.
Postseason Appearances and Key Victories
- UTSA made its first postseason appearance at the 2016 New Mexico Bowl in only its sixth season.
- The Roadrunners earned their first win over a Big 12 team in 2017 with a 17-10 victory against Baylor.
Historic Achievements in 2021 and Beyond
In 2021, UTSA achieved several milestones, including a road win against Illinois (Big Ten), their first conference championship with a 49-42 win over WKU, and completing the season with a 12-2 record and a third bowl game appearance.
They repeated as Conference USA champions in 2022 with a 48-27 victory over North Texas and finished the year with an 11-3 record and a third consecutive bowl appearance.
