Equinor has flagged that the United Kingdom risks becoming "uninvestable" if North Sea projects Jackdaw and Rosebank are blocked. The Norwegian energy company's chief executive cast doubt on whether future investment in the UK could continue if drilling approvals are denied, drawing attention from the BBC, The Times, and the Financial Times.

The warning puts pressure on UK energy policy at a time when the government is deciding on the future of North Sea development. Blocking the two projects, Equinor made clear, would raise serious questions about the country's appetite for large-scale energy investment.

Separately, Equinor released a quarterly update on 7 October 2026 saying its trading profit will beat its own forecast for the third quarter. Reuters reported the update ahead of the company's scheduled financial results.
