A huge earthquake trembled Mexico this morning. The tremor continued several minutes and measured 7.3. Its center was off the coast near Guatemala. The jolt arrived at 11:10am local time. Strong shaking spread fast. Tsunami alerts went up at once. Mexico and Guatemala faced alerts for high waves. People along the shore moved quickly to higher ground. Aftershocks continued, some strong. The biggest aftershock reached 5.0. No big damage or injuries were reported yet. Homes and streets remained quiet in Chiapas and nearby areas. Tsunami alerts were active for hours. They were later removed as seas remained calm.
